The Boys’ Homelander confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1

NetherRealm Studios' crossover with other franchises continues with Mortal Kombat 1, bringing in The Seven's tyrannical leader, Homelander.

Homelander's brand of justice fits perfectly in Mortal Kombat.

From bloody fatalities to grand visual spectacle, the Mortal Kombat franchise has always enthralled gamers with its unique blend of unapologetically brutal combat and surprisingly meticulous character development. The upcoming entry, Mortal Kombat 1, is not an exception.

The rich lineage of Mortal Kombat games has always been known for its awe-inspiring rosters. Mortal Kombat 1, as per the leaks and official information, looks to live up to this reputation. The reboot welcomes the return of classic characters such as Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, and Johnny Cage. It will also introduce us to a brand-new concept in the Mortal Kombat universe, the Kameo Fighters. These characters will be a separate suite of combatants who can assist players during matches, spicing up the battlefield with unanticipated dynamics.

But, what’s really interesting at the moment is the introduction of special guest characters to the Mortal Kombat universe, namely Homelander from The Boys, which was confirmed by The Boys’ TikTok account.

An accidental confirmation of Homelander’s participation in Mortal Kombat 1 during a collaboration announcement with Call of Duty ignited a flurry of excitement among fans. Vought International Studios, the fictional company from The Boys, responded to a query about a possible Mortal Kombat collaboration with a simple: “MK Confirmed.” They later added, “Homelander will be available at some point. That’s all we can say,” further stoking the flames of anticipation.

Homelander from The Boys, Peacemaker from the DC Universe, and Omni-Man from Invincible were previously leaked to be a part of the Mortal Kombat 1 roster. And, while Peacemaker and Omni-Man aren’t confirmed yet, Homelander’s inclusion is all but certain at this point.

In addition to these, a host of other Mortal Kombat veterans like Rain and Smoke, among others, are re-entering the fray, both under different origin stories, as is the case with pretty much everyone on the roster save maybe for Fire God Liu Kang.

It looks like we’re about to find out who’s stronger between Omni-Man or Homelander.

NetherRealm has a knack for introducing a variety of characters in its Mortal Kombat installments, leaning on everything from comic books to action movies and even horror flicks. It’s this variety that has paved the way for the inclusion of the likes of John Rambo, the Xenomorph from the Alien franchise, the T-800, Spawn, Joker, and so much more.

With Mortal Kombat 1 scheduled to launch on September 19, a mere two or so months from now, we’ll likely get official confirmation soon.

For now, fans will have to wait for the next set of details about Mortal Kombat 1 to come, which will likely be included in a new Kombat Kast episode. Mortal Kombat 1 will rewrite the game’s history with Fire God Liu Kang aided by a young, very human Raiden, and Kung Lao.

We could see Peacemaker being a good fit in Mortal Kombat with a similar playstyle to Stryker.

As for Homelander, Amazon will be at the San Diego Comic-Con to reveal more about The Boys. Unfortunately, Season 4 is still delayed indefinitely due to the ongoing WGA strike.
