When it comes to Mortal Kombat guest characters, NetherRealm Studios doesn't miss. If we believe the recent rumors, the long-time Mortal Kombat developers have another homerun planned for the upcoming new installment.
According to sources, specifically Jez Corden, Peacemaker could be a part of the Mortal Kombat 12 roster as a post-launch DLC character.
Jez Corden also hinted that Homelander could be added as well.
Homelander and Peacemaker are some of the most popular comic book characters in mainstream media today. The former rose to infamy due to the masterful portrayal of Anthony Starr in the hit Prime Video series, The Boys. On the other hand, John Cena and James Gunn teamed up to bring the B-lister vigilante, Peacemaker, to the big screen in The Suicide Squad two years ago and as the titular lead in last year's biggest HBO Max surprises.
From Peacemaker's other more prominent DC stablemates like Joker to other pop culture icons like RoboCop, Rambo, and the T-8000 Terminator, the Mortal Kombat games have served as a huge battleground for several legendary characters.
Thus, it'll be interesting to see if Corden's teases will actually come true.
Both Peacemaker and Homelander would make intriguing additions to the Mortal Kombat roster albeit familiar. The former is, in his words, a better version of Bloodsport, who in turn should play similarly to Deadshot, one of the playable characters in Injustice 2, another fighting game by NetherRealm Studios.
On the other hand, Homelander is obviously a subverted version of Superman, someone who's less of a tyrannical ruler and more like a psychopath who's hell-bent on squashing everyone and everything in his path.
Though these are just rumors at this stage, the potential inclusion of Peacemaker and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 12 is an exciting possibility that has the gaming community buzzing.
This would not only be a big draw for DC fans but also for gamers who appreciate unique additions to their fighting games.
Of course, we still don't know much about Mortal Kombat 12 at all. Corden states that a PlayStation Showcase is coming later this month, which could potentially include the official reveal of Mortal Kombat 12 after Warner Bros. Discovery CEO, David Zaslav, spilled the tea earlier this year.
Speaking of Homelander, Hideo Kojima once had an idea for a video game similar to The Boys. Now, Eric Kripke, the series' showrunner, wants to tap Kojima to adapt the show for gamers.
