In a move that was probably telegraphed in hindsight, big-time video game publisher, Take-Two Interactive, has acquired Zynga, the company behind mobile and social titles like FarmVille and Words with Friends, among several others.

What does the Zynga acquisition mean for Take-Two's future?

Take-two Acquires Zynga For Nearly Billion

Take-Two Interactive is a massive video game holding company that owns some of the largest and most popular video game developers in the world, including 2K Games and Rockstar Games. As per The Wall Street Journal, Take-Two secured Zynga for $12.7 billion. Both companies expect the transaction to close by 2023.

The Zynga acquisition is the first of its kind in 2022. It is also easily one of the largest acquisitions in video game history. The figures exceed Microsoft's ZeniMaxMedia buyout last year by a significant amount. The move gives Take-Two a serious boost in the mobile game market, and we think it's only a matter of time before Take-Two decides to release even more mobile ports of its classic titles.
