Starfield faced its fair share of criticism due to a notable omission: the absence of Nvidia DLSS support upon launch. It was a decision that stirred significant drama during the initial days of the game's release.
Now, Bethesda has announced that support for Nvidia's upscaling technology is now in beta on Steam. PC players who purchased the game via Steam can opt for the beta version of Starfield to test out the feature before it goes live for all platforms.
Enabling DLSS supports adds DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing, Nvidia Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation to Starfield. However, players need a compatible graphics cards to access the upscaling technology. There should be a huge performance boost from using the DLSS technology natively and not from unofficial mods.
Bethesda received a lot of backlash for not including DLSS support at the outset, after it partnered with AMD. However, AMD denied that it required exclusivity for its upscaling technology. The GPU maker stated that it merely wanted priority for its technology. However, many players still saw the move as a cash grab on the part of Bethesda.
