What is it with Star Wars: Battlefront and the number 3? We just found out that EA and DICE are never going to work on a third Star Wars: Battlefront game. However, they're not the first ones to drop out of a third Star Wars: Battlefront game despite incessant demand from the public. More than a decade ago, LucasArts and Free Radical Design did the same thing.
Pandemic Studios kickstarted the Battlefront franchise back in 2004 for LucasArts. At the time, critics and audiences alike praised the original Battlefront game. In particular, many loved how Battlefront featured iconic Star Wars locations and how well the multiplayer component worked.
Despite criticism about the relatively lackluster single-player campaign, Pandemic Studios got the chance to work on a sequel that was released in 2005 and that addressed all the concerns about the first title, while also building upon all its strengths.
Naturally, a sequel to Battlefront 2 was expected, which was actually in the works until 2008.
