Physical editions of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in Japan and Asia have a peculiar problem: the discs are mislabeled. This error, caused apparently by a manufacturing defect over at Sony Interactive Entertainment, could lead to confusion for players attempting to install and play the highly anticipated sequel.

Normally, players would insert the "Data Disc" first to install FF7 Rebirth on PS5. Then, they would swap to the "Play Disc" to begin their adventure. However, due to the mislabeling, these labels are reversed on affected discs.

Square Enix

has since acknowledged the error, issuing a guide to help affected players:

https://twitter.com/FFVIIR_CLOUD/status/1762808191551963451 Insert the disc labeled "Play Disc" (it's actually the Data Disc) into your PlayStation 5 and begin the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions. Once the installation is complete, insert the disc labeled "Data Disc" (it's actually the Play Disc) to start the game. After the initial installation, you'll only need to use the disc labeled "Data Disc" (the actual Play Disc) to play the game. FF7 Rebirth's publisher has since apologized for the inconvenience. However, it clarifies that the disc contents are correct. Players simply need to use them in the reverse order of their labels.
