Reliable leaker, Tom Henderson, has reported that Sony plans to launch a new PlayStation 5 console model with a surprising new feature in September 2024. In his report, Henderson disclosed that the new console will feature virtually the same hardware as the current PS5 with one major difference - the new console will come with a detachable disc drive that can be connected to the console via a USB-C port.

Instead of two PS5 versions there will only be a base Digital Edition, which users can turn into a standard version by purchasing an external disc drive and connecting it via USB. The new console will also feature an entirely new chassis. With these changes, we expect it will be lighter and slimmer than the PS5 consoles that are currently available on the market.

Sony Will Release A New Playstation 5 Console In September 2024

Sony released the current PlayStation 5 console in late 2020 and, like with the PS4, many fans expected the company to release a Pro version. If this report is true, it appears Sony has chosen to go another route - whether this will appeal to gamers is something we will have to wait and see.
