The console wars are all about hardware, but more than just the machines themselves. Hot on the heels of Microsoft’s latest Xbox Wireless Controller release, Sony is stepping up its game with a brand-new accessory lineup for the PlayStation 5 – introducing the equally-impressive Deep Earth Collection.
Revealed at the September PlayStation State of Play, Sony showcased a glimpse into its new collection, which is nothing short of a visual treat. The collection introduces three new metallic shades for the DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console covers: the Volcanic Red, the Cobalt Blue, and the Sterling Silver.
If you’re wondering about the inspiration behind these shades, it’s the very planet we inhabit. Satoshi Aoyagi, one of the masterminds from Sony’s design team, shared a statement on the new PlayStation collection, giving fans insight into how these accessories are conceptualized.
“While crafting this new collection of DualSense controller and PS5 console cover colors, we drew inspiration from the beautiful and powerful hues found in the depths of planet Earth. We elevated the colors by adding a metallic finish for a touch of sophistication.” he stated.
Now, if you’re already reaching for your wallet, hold on just a bit longer. Pre-orders for this dazzling collection are set to go live on October 4. Unfortunately, while the Volcanic Red and Cobalt Blue accessories are scheduled to launch on November 3, the Sterling Silver accessories will not be available to purchase until January 26.
The Deep Earth DualSense controllers will retail for $74.99, while the PS5 console covers will set you back $59.99. A small price to pay for such elegance, if you ask us or any other collector out there – at least as far as the controllers go. Those covers are pushing it a bit.
With the global chip shortage finally easing up, it seems like the perfect time for Sony to give the PlayStation 5 a fresh, metallic makeover. If this new collection does not suit your style, you can opt to buy the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 covers. It’s worth noting, however, that these covers might come at a premium, thanks to scalpers driving up prices beyond their intrinsic value.
