Sony removes incoming PS Plus Extra games from January lineup

According to Sony, the two games were "incorrectly announced" as part of this month's new games for the Extra-tier subscription.

Sayonara Wild Hearts is one of the most underrated games to come out in recent years.

How does that song go, “even the best fall down sometimes?” Well, in this particular case, even a mighty giant like Sony is capable of making a pretty basic mistake of announcing a game for PS Plus Extra only to confirm that it wasn’t supposed to be a part of it at all.

After confirming the incoming games for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium for the month, Sony backtracked by saying it “incorrectly announced” one game that it’s omitting from the lineup.

The said title, Sayonara Wild Hearts, was meant to be available for download to those with active Extra-tier memberships on the 17th. But, this is no longer the case. Sony didn’t specify exactly why it’s removing the Simogo-developed game from the lineup but we presume it was supposed to be part of a later update. Either that or negotiations with the publisher, Annapurna Interactive, fell through at the last minute.

Also, don’t expect to be playing the PS5 version of Just Cause 4: Reloaded without having to pay for it. Sony didn’t address this in the same blog post, but eagle-eyed observers noticed how Sony made a subtle change and removed the PS5 version of the explosive action-packed GTA-like game from the list.

Ultimately, it’s a shame PS Plus subscribers won’t get to play Sayonara Wild Hearts next week. The indie rhythm game won a BAFTA Games Award for Artistic Achievement and would’ve found an audience among active users.

Just Cause 4: Reloaded is long overdue a sequel.

Speaking of PS Plus, this month’s Essential-tier freebies are still up for grabs.
