Two years after launching PlayStation Studios and months ahead of the release of its next PC port – Horizon Forbidden West: Complete Edition is coming to the PC in early 2024 after being released on the PlayStation 5 on October 6 – Sony is calling for back up.
As spotted by the more curious folks over at Reddit, Sony is looking for a PC Planning Analyst who will play a key role in “driving sales success and shaping strategy for PlayStation’s fast growing PC business.” In addition, the hired individual will report directly to a Senior Manager, using their knowledge as well as expertise in fields such as forecasting, financial modeling, and market analysis, to help foster growth.
Here are the requirements for interested applicants:
It’s impossible to overstate this position’s significance to the future of PlayStation as a brand. Their core duties, as per the job posting, span a broad spectrum: from sculpting robust sales forecasts, honing promotional tactics, and devising adaptable budgetary frameworks, to the meticulous construction of comprehensive reports for Sony’s higher echelons – reports that will spotlight sales metrics, proffer insights into the market, and recommend forward-looking strategies.
Furthermore, prospective candidates should demonstrate not just an aptitude for data and analysis, but interpersonal attributes too. Building and nurturing relationships, cooperating across diverse organizational tiers, and a meticulous attention to detail are indispensable for this role. A foundational familiarity with MS Office Tools, especially Word and PowerPoint, is obligatory. A fervor for the video game industry, twinned with an astute grasp of gaming trends and player behaviors, will also stand candidates in good stead.
The remunerative aspect of the role is competitive, with the estimated salary ranging from $106,600 and $160,000 every year, Sony is also offering a holistic compensation package that envelops medical, dental, and vision coverage as well as paid vacations, wellness initiatives, potential bonuses, and enticing employee discounts.
This drive towards PC isn’t surprising, to say the least. With the acquisition of Nixxes Software, Sony proved that it isn’t joking with its decision to port its games to PC. Moreover, the company has been signaling its intent to make a mark in the PC gaming sphere for a while. The company has been explicit about its strategy of migrating exclusive titles to the so-called “master race”, a clear indication that Sony envisions a substantial future in the non-console platform. Besides, with at least a dozen live-service titles coming in 2026, Sony is going to need a lot of help.
Hopefully, this hiring means that PC gamers will see more ports of first-party exclusives on a more frequent basis than before. So far, Sony has released roughly 2-3 ports of first-party titles every year.
Speaking of Sony, this past month has been mixed for the console manufacturer. On one hand, it has finally confirmed the PS5 Slim for November. But, it risks backlash for, among other things, selling the vertical stand for the PS5 slim for a slight premium. Not to mention, it’s the victim of one of the worst string of leaks in recent memory, with even reviewers uploading their copies of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 way earlier than everyone else. The good news is that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s launch trailer is absolutely lit.
