The first week of June is almost upon us and it means that it’s time to check out the new PlayStation Plus Essential lineup.
A week after the May 24 PlayStation Showcase, where Sony confirmed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and revealed a new gameplay trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Sony’s latest round of free titles is an excellent consolation prize.
According to Sony, the trio of games free for subscribers for June 6 to July 3 will be NBA 2K23, Jurassic World Evolution 2, and Trek to Yomi.
NBA 2K23 is the latest entry in the long-running basketball sports sim. It’s a slam-dunk experience with true-to-life gameplay and up-to-date rosters. While several months old, it remains just as immersive of an experience for basketball fans. From navigating through teams in NBA history to trying your hand at MyCareer or The W, this basketball simulation game can still entertain you ahead of the presumed release of NBA 2K24 in the next few months. Despite criticism around its microtransaction-filled design, NBA 2k23’s extensive content means that you don’t necessarily have to spend real money to have fun.
The next one up is Jurassic World Evolution 2, a sequel to the original Jurassic World Evolution game. It refines the first title and gives gamers more options when building their own dinosaur-themed park.
With original film actors like Jeff Goldblum and Bryce Dallas Howard lending their creative talents, Jurassic World Evolution 2 offers a roaring game time for fans of the iconic franchise.
Finally, the trio’s dark horse, Trek to Yomi, is a side-scrolling action game teeming with atmosphere and striking visuals. It’s standard fare in terms of narrative experience but it promises a cinematic ride filled with heroic deeds and raw emotion. If nothing else, it’s a short but intense journey you won’t regret.
The latest PS Plus Essential lineup is a significant improvement over the previous month’s offerings, which faced backlash. This mix of sports simulation, dinosaur management, and samurai action, offers a variety of experiences that caters to a lot of preferences. It’s safe to say that Sony took the criticism to heart and bounced back with a strong selection this time around.
For now, last month’s freebies are still available for grabs through June 5.
With the latest announcement, fans are now waiting for Sony to confirm this month’s PS Plus Extra and Premium free titles, which have actually been quite successful for the console manufacturer since their introduction.
