You know the holiday season is in full swing when console manufacturers start to give consumers a reason to throw away all their hard-earned money on the latest games and gadgets. As the “real” console wars of this generation start, Sony has fired the loudest shots so far with the official confirmation of the PlayStation 5 Pro, which is looking more like a value purchase by the day, and the announcement of its latest PSOne-style line of accessories and bundles.
The limited edition collection of PlayStation 5 consoles and accessories are part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebration of the PlayStation brand, which will likely culminate at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 on September 26 where the “Father of PlayStation”, Ken Kutaragi, is expected to share a few words.
As if to drive the point of the importance of September 26 home, Sony confirmed that pre-orders for the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Collection will start on the said date ahead of their release on November 21.
According to Sony, the 30th Anniversary Collection will include a PS5 Digital Edition bundle, a PS5 Pro bundle, and standalone PSOne-style versions of the PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, and DualSense.
Sony has yet to confirm the exact prices for the bundles or the individual purchases, but the company did confirm that it will only release 12,300 units of the PlayStation 5 Pro Console – 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle. Each unit will come with etched numbers presenting the month and date of the first PlayStation console launch.
Pre-orders are available on the PlayStation Direct website. But if it isn’t available in your region, you can prde-order the bundles or individual units from select retailers.
The PS5 Pro is already expensive as it is, so we can expect the limited edition bundle to drive the price even higher. At the very least, the entire bundle should cost at the very least $999.99 if not more. If you’ve got money to spare or you really love the PlayStation brand, you should pray that you’re lucky enough to pre-order a PS5One-style PS5 Pro bundle. While you’re at it, you can also get yourself a PSOne-colored PlayStation Portal, which has been a huge commercial success for Sony, by the way, even before this latest announcement.
Now if you love the PSOne colors, as we’ve mentioned, there should be a less expensive PS5 Digital Edition bundle that you can pre-order starting on October 26.
Given that the best games of 2024 are on the PlayStation 5, headlined by Astro Bot, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Black Myth: Wukong, gamers who hadn’t snagged a PS5 yet had every bit of a reason to do so over the next couple of months in spite of the price hikes.
With these limited edition bundles and accessories, Sony is driving the FOMO levels for a new PS5 even further. Even those not lucky enough to get their hands on these highly sought after collector’s items will want to buy a PS5 or a PlayStation Portal even more, further widening the already chasmic sales gap between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X.
