The upcoming Silent Hill 2 Remake has stirred controversy, with the game’s developers, Bloober Team, seemingly distancing themselves from the game’s recent combat-focused trailer and subtly pointing fingers at publisher Konami.

The “Combat Reveal Trailer” debuted during a PlayStation State of Play event, showcased action-heavy gameplay that deviated from the series’ traditional horror atmosphere. For a fairly obvious reason, fans weren’t happy with its quality. Furthermore, many criticized its stiff animations, generic sound effects, and focus on combat over psychological depth.

A growing number of viewers are disliking the video on YouTube, proving the increasingly negative reception to what should’ve been a celebrated glimpse into the upcoming survival horror remake.

Bloober’s Team president Piotr Babieno acknowledged the negative feedback, clarifying that marketing is Konami’s responsibility. He even joked about writing the negative comments as if emphasizing the disconnect between the trailer and their vision. Babieno stressed that it aims to “fully capture this romantic vision of the game,” suggesting the trailer misrepresents the true Silent Hill 2 experience.

The recent interview with inwestorzy.tv (as covered by Eurogamer.pl) isn’t the first instance of Bloober Team shifting responsibility to Konami. These hint at a potentially tense relationship, adding a cloud of uncertainty to the project’s development.

Despite the controversy, Babieno assures Silent Hill 2 honors the original’s legacy without compromising anything. Nevertheless, the true impact of Bloober Team’s vision and the influence of Konami’s curious marketing strategy remain to be seen.

So far, Konami is 0-2 with its Silent Hill revival plans. Last year’s interactive series, Silent Hill: Ascension, largely fell flat on its face. Meanwhile, the recently released free title, Silent Hill: The Short Message, fared better but remains divisive.

Konami is expected to releaseSilent Hill 2</em >and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater later this year.
