“Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero” is a new world quest introduced in Genshin Impact 4.4 with the release of Chenyu Vale. Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero is the name of the final quest in a long chain of quests and also gives you Liyue city reputation experience points. This quest chain has several sub-quests that start right after the other, giving players the impression that it is one complete quest.
Technically, it is one complete quest. However, it is important to understand that three major sub-quests make up the entirety of this quest. You can only claim the reputation experience points once you’ve completed the last one, Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero.
We’ve divided this guide as per the sub-quests, making it easier for you to follow along. Please refer to the table of contents to navigate as required. We’ve covered all the relevant puzzles with solutions as well.
Pre-requirement
There are no pre-requirements for this quest.
A Wangshan Walk to Remember
The first sub-quest, or the initiating quest, is called “A Wangshan Walk to Remember.” You can start this quest by talking to Huang the Third at Yilong Wharf.
After speaking to Huang, you will be asked to meet up with Huang at Wangshan Hall at Mt. Lingmeng. Once you’ve met with Huang near the entrance of the Wangshan Hall, you need to pass some of his trials. One of the first trials is to jump on five Plum Blossom Poles without falling or touching the ground. It is an easy “challenge” and can be completed in no time.
Once you’re done with the first trial, you need to go to the site of the next trial by following the quest marker. This is called the “Martial Trial.” For this trial, you need to hit the red dummies and avoid hitting the blue dummies within the given time.
You will get four waves of dummies. You can quickly do this by using any bow character. Just be careful when you’re using bow characters with AoE charged shots, as they can also hit the blue dummies. For example, Yelan’s charged shots have massive AoE and easily hit multiple enemies. Granted, it won’t affect the outcome of the trial, and you can speed run it.
The only difference after this trial is the completion dialogue from Huang, depending on whether you’ve completed this trial perfectly or hit some of the blue dummies.
You can see in the video below that we’re using Yelan, but are occasionally shooting in the air. That is because Yelan’s AoE is activated once she is out of combat for 5 seconds. This is known as the Breakthrough. Breakthrough deals AoE hydro damage based on Yelan’s HP. So, whenever her Breakthrough was ready, we shot in the air to ensure we didn’t hit the blue dummies with the AoE shots.
After completing the Martial Trial, go to the main gate of Wangshan Hall and open it by interacting with it. Continue going deeper into the Wangshan Hall and walk around with Huang the Third as he gives you the hall tour. You may need to interact with certain objects as he gives you the tour, but once you’ve interacted, talk to Wangshan to continue and move on to the next location.
Eventually, you will be asked to step to the side and listen to Paimon. After listening to Paimon, you and Paimon will cook a steak for Huang. Here, you must continuously add salt until you’ve eventually cooked “The Paimon Special.” Give this special dish to Huang, and a cutscene will follow. This will conclude A Wangshan Walk to Remember quest.
Scrolls and Sword Manuals of Guhua
Right after the cutscene of A Wangshan Walk to Remember quest ends, the next sub-quest, “Scrolls and Sword Manuals of Guhua,” will start. You will also get Wangshan Hall’s backup key from Huang the Third. Follow the quest marker to go to a locked gate that leads to the Arcane Archive. You can use the backup key you’ve acquired from Huang to open the locked gate.
Once inside the Arcane Archive, you will find a mechanism in the middle of the room with some scrolls and scroll shelves on the walls around you. However, these scrolls and shelves are only visible through your elemental vision. This is important as your elemental vision will allow you to solve this puzzle.
Before we get into this puzzle, you first need to start it. You can do this by interacting with the book behind a wall of spider webs. First, eliminate the spider so that the web wall is destroyed. After destroying the webs, go through the doorway and find the “Guhua Notes” to your immediate left. Interact with them to enable the puzzle.
You will know that the puzzle has started as you’ll be able to see the adeptal energy icon on the scrolls on the walls. Your quest log will also change to “Find the secret stashed in the Arcane Archive.”
To solve this puzzle, you need to move each colored scroll to its designated colored shelf. For example, the purple scroll will go into the purple shelf, the orange scroll will go into the orange shelf, and so on. All the scrolls are on the wall. You need to move them by one to the left. However, the yellow-colored scroll is missing from the wall – it is also in the same room but on the stone shelf in the south direction.
Once all the scrolls are in place, activate the mechanism in the middle of the room, and the water level around the platform will drop and end this sub-quest.
Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero
Keep following the quest marker to go deeper into the cave. You will also find a secret teleport waypoint here, which would not have been accessible if you had skipped this quest.
You will come across an open big area that has another platform with another mechanism in the middle of the room. Investigate the mechanism to continue with the quest. Upon investigating the mechanism, it will start another trial. This will be your final trial where you must defeat a number of enemy waves.
Once you’ve completed the final trial, the water will lower and so will the platform. After that, continue following the quest marker to the final location where you will find a large sword with an “Ancient Swordsman’s Inscriptions.” Once the cutscene ends, the Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero world quest will be completed.

After completing the Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero, you will also get a secret achievement called “The Supreme Secret.”
