Those of you looking forward to Sega’s upcoming releases can expect titles such as Sonic Origins Plus, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Endless Dragon to hit the market in the fiscal year 2023-2024.
Sega recently released a new financial report which revealed the company’s plan to release at least 12 non-mobile platform games for the fiscal year 2023-2024.
Based on the financial report, the whole company enjoyed excellent sales over the past year, especially its video games. As a result, Sega wants to release even more games going forward.
According to the report, Persona 5 Royal and Sonic Frontiers were the two best-selling games of the previous year. Persona 5 Royal is a port of Altus’ JRPG to several platforms including the Nintendo Switch and PC. Sonic Frontiers is a new open-world Sonic the Hedgehog game.
Persona 5 Royal sold over 1.7 million units last year while Sonic Frontiers had over 3.2 million units shipped. Sega wants to continue the trend with new games increasing sales even more.
Sega plans to have global simultaneous multiplatform launches for its upcoming games. The report states that there are 12 non-mobile games including Sonic Origins Plus, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Endless Dragon.
The company has several more games that have yet to be announced that will be added to its release library. Sega expects to sell 12 million units combined which means an average of 1 million units per game.
Sega will also be re-releasing a number of older games, which it expects will generate around 5 million units in combined sales. Santa De Amigo, Entrain Odyssey Origins Collection, and Sonic Origins are some of the titles to be re-released.
The financial report also states that the company will be supporting live service and the AAA games released last year. The Persona 5 Royal remaster and Football Manager 2022 are some of the games that will be getting more support this year.
According to the report, Sega plans to transition its IP into more global titles. The strategy is reportedly moving into the next stage.
Sega recently acquired Finnish studio Rovio, best known for developing the Angry Birds series of mobile games, for $776 million but is still subject to regulatory approval. The company hopes to work with the studio on more mobile games. It also plans on capitalizing on Rovio’s experience in mobile gaming to bring new and old titles to smartphones.
Sega of America was recently in the news as it joins ZeniMax and Activision Blizzard as AAA developers that have won the right to unionize in the United States. It will be interesting to see how this new development affects the development of the games.
