The writing was already on the wall, but it still stings. Rockstar Games just confirmed that it is no longer supporting Red Dead Online with major content updates. But, just as they say, when one door closes, another one opens. In this particular case, Rockstar is dropping Red Dead Online so it can focus more on GTA 6.
Rockstar made the announcement on an official blog post where the publisher laid out its plans for GTA Online and Red Dead Online. While Rockstar had plenty good to say about GTA Online's future, it couldn't say the same about RDO. Instead, Rockstar all but confirmed that the online open-world western is on the back burner for now.
Here's an excerpt of what Rockstar said in its latest statement: Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series - understanding more than ever the need to exceed players' expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be - and as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online. Rockstar's latest update is in line with what we've heard, down to the company's decision to cancel future remasters, at least, until GTA 6 is out.
