Roblox is transitioning away from remote work. The company's CEO David Baszucki communicated this in a letter to its employees on Tuesday.

Baszucki wrote, "Today we will be asking a number of our remote employees to begin working from our headquarters in San Mateo by next summer and transitioning away from remote work at Roblox." He clarified that employees will be required to be at the office three days a week – from Tuesdays to Thursdays.

In the letter, Baszucki acknowledged the gravity of the decision. He empathized with staff who would be affected by the change but reiterated that the company's interests would be best served by the transition.

The CEO outlined the rationale behind this move, explaining that cohorts, including new college graduates and new hires, learn best through social interaction with senior employees. He explained that the current remote work culture denies them the mentorship that comes from that interaction.

Roblox is one of the world's biggest online gaming platforms but it is not profitable just yet.

For context, Baszucki shared an incident where, during Roblox's first in-person meeting following the global pandemic, he implemented a handful of innovative ideas. He contrasted this with previous years, when meetings were exclusively virtual, and pointed out the lack of such experiences.
