- Roblox is finally making its debut on PlayStation, with a release confirmed for PlayStation 4 on October 10th.
- Sony's initial concerns about the game's popularity among children delayed Roblox's arrival on PlayStation, but recent changes to the game may have alleviated its concerns.
- Alongside the PlayStation announcement, Roblox unveiled new features, including Roblox Connect and Assistant.
Roblox is finally coming to PlayStation. While the game has been out on the Xbox One and PC for several years, it hasn't gotten a PlayStation release until now.
Roblox was released on Windows PC in 2006 and has been on the Xbox One since 2015. The game platform and creator is also on iOS since 2012 and launched on Android in 2014. However, the PlayStation port of Roblox is taking a very long time to materialize due to Sony's concern about the game's popularity with children.
"Historically, because of the large number of children that play on the PlayStation, we have been very careful with regards to opening them up to anything that could potentially exploit them," Sony's Jim Ryan said in 2022.
"Over the last couple of years, however, we have reviewed those policies and relaxed a little on this," he continued. "We have been conservative for too long, and now we are currently engaging with people at Roblox. We hope that the situation will change."
Well, things have finally changed as the Roblox Corporation announced that the game is finally coming to PlayStation during the recently concluded Roblox Developer Conference (RDC). The annual event was held last September 8-9 at the Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco. Sony's pivot may have been due to Roblox adding gaming categories for players 17 and up alleviating the console-maker's concerns.
More than 65 million people are on Roblox every day, enjoying immersive experiences and connecting with others all over the world. Soon, Roblox will be accessible to even more people to enjoy - on Meta Quest and PlayStation. pic.twitter.com/Tzvpa5UMFs

During the recently concluded State of Play, Sony confirmed that the game platform is coming to the PS4 on October 10. It will be available to play on the PS5 via backwards compatibility.
Roblox also announced a number of features coming to the game during the RDC 2023. Roblox Connect is an in-game avatar chat service allowing players to communicate. Players will use their Roblox avatars in virtual surroundings and will be able to use facial expressions and movement.
For game creators, Roblox is adding Assistant, an AI companion for the in-game development studio, to help guide new creators and accelerate content creation by suggesting functions and lines of code. With the use of Assistant, players can easily turn their ideas into functioning games on the platform.
Roblox is easily the most popular gaming title on the planet. Epic Games estimates that Roblox has around 250 million monthly active users. In comparison, Minecraft attracts 100 million players while Fortnite has around 70 million.
Roblox comes to the PS4 on October 10 with a release on PS5 to be announced at a later date.
This is fine but I don't have a PS4 so wtf. Why not PS5!?
I still don't understand why it took them this long to port over Roblox for PlayStation. I was hoping for a PS5 release though. I am going to have to wait for that.
Maybe they are waiting for PS5 until closer to the holiday season for some reason? idk
