Would you believe a sizable chunk of the Resident Evil franchise’s lifetime sales belong to one title? To be more specific, Resident Evil 4 holds that distinction. However, we’re not here to talk about the OG game that has been re-released more times than The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – we’re here to talk about the remake.
After launching a year ago, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil 4 (yes, both of the games have the same name) has surpassed 7 million sales worldwide.
The whole Resident Evil series has sold more than 154 million units to date. Resident Evil 4, both the original and the remake, are a huge part of this number.
Resident Evil 4 has sold over seven million copies! Guess there's only one thing to say at a time like this.

Resident Evil 4‘s success now means that it’s one of the most critically acclaimed entries in the franchise and its fastest-selling title. The quality of the gaming experience, which, in some eyes, surpasses that of the original, has received plenty of praise over the past year. While it brings back plenty of the same content from the original, including the “Separate Ways” DLC, it also adds several more moments and side modes that weren’t in the original – much to the game’s benefit.
Capcom has actively supported Resident Evil 4 post-launch, including promotional sales and expansions like a VR experience and an iOS port at the end of the last year. These efforts have contributed to the game’s sustained popularity and sales momentum.
As Resident Evil 4 continues to dominate the market, Capcom appears to have struck a massive goldmine with its strategy of remastering its classic titles and releasing them in between mainline entries. The company’s ability to rejuvenate beloved games while it’s maintaining the essence that fans adore is a significant factor in their ongoing success. The remastering trend allows new generations of gamers to experience these iconic games with contemporary enhancements.
Looking forward, Capcom’s pipeline hints at more exciting developments for the future of Resident Evil, possibly including the return of a familiar face in the next entry.
