Resident Evil is Capcom's best-selling franchise. Its newest title continues the trend, shipping 5 million units in just a few months.
Capcom released the Resident Evil 4 remake last March, and less than half a year later, the best-selling title, has already sold more than 5 million copies. This is a really big achievement as it took 2021's Resident Evil Village almost six months to ship the same number of copies.
"Sales of Resident Evil 4 grew following a highly positive reception from customers as well as with the release of The Mercenaries, free additional downloadable content, driving worldwide sales over 5 million units," the press release reads.
The only other title in the series to hit the milestone faster than the Resident Evil 4 remake is Resident Evil 5, which came out in 2009 and sold close to 5 million copies in a month and surpassed the 5-million mark within three months.
The Resident Evil 4 remake had a fantastic start, selling over three million copies in just the first two days. The game shipped 4 million units in the first two weeks. Things did significantly slow down afterward but the title still managed to reach the milestone in four months.
