Remnant 2 is beating Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam

Despite receiving little to no marketing and making minimal noise outside of word of mouth, the upcoming soulslike sequel is making waves.

Every year sees a couple of sleeper hits turn more heads than expected and it looks like it's Remnant 2 will be one of such games this year.

Gunfire Games, with the help of Gearbox Publishing, came out with Remnant: From the Ashes in 2019 and gave fans of the Soulsborne genre something to cheer for. Three years and 3 million copies sold later, a sequel, Remnant 2, is shaping up to be yet another sleeper but bigger hit for the studio.

Not yet officially released but already turning heads, Remnant 2 is a name being bandied about in the most passionate of gamer circles. It’s no longer just a potential cult classic but a likely best-seller that will explode into the mainstream on July 25.

The first “Remnant” was a solid performer that struck a chord with a select audience. An oddball mix of co-op third-person shooter, Soulslike and ARPG that struck gold, it inspired players to dive deep, plumbing its secrets and spending hundreds of hours in its unique, replayable world. However, it seems that its successor is prepared to step out of the shadows and onto center stage.

Remnant: From the Ashes gave the studio a good foundation to build on for a much better sequel.

Remnant 2 has managed to entice even those unfamiliar with its predecessor. The game’s unique blend of precise enemy attack patterns, invincibility-boosted dodge rolls, and satisfying shooting have piqued the curiosity of the picky fanbase of the genre. And that’s not even mentioning the game’s treasure trove of secrets, its arsenal of weapons, and the deep character progression that should garner much acclaim.

Such an allure has translated into tangible success already. Steam, Valve’s leading digital games distribution platform, gives a glimpse into the game’s ascent. As of the time of writing, Remnant 2 has seized the title of the second best-selling game globally, giving the free-to-play giant, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a good run for its money and displacing another potential upstart in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Now consider this: Remnant 2 isn’t priced at the industry standard of $60 or $70. It’s available for just $50. This makes its rise to prominence on a revenue-based chart all the more significant.

Remnant 2 could snag a couple of awards if the reviews are to be believed.

Early previews of the game have been overwhelmingly positive. Its gunplay, loot system, and character customization have been lauded for their depth and impact on gameplay. The game’s dark-fantasy aesthetic and equipment design have also captured the imaginations of players. It’s become increasingly clear that Remnant 2 is a titanic offering in a relatively affordable package.

A compelling pricing strategy and growing anticipation have helped the game secure a significant player base even before its release. And it’s not just about the numbers. Many players are declaring their intention to shelve other popular titles to dedicate themselves to Remnant 2 upon its release.

From its promising gameplay to its unique, captivating features, Remnant 2 has gripped the attention of audiences, with a handful looking forward to joining in on the fun on day one.

Shooters and soulslike are words you don’t usually find together but, for some reason, Remnant 2 makes it work.

But the final judgment will, of course, come when the game is finally released on July 25. Whether it will live up to the lofty expectations it has set for itself is a question only time will answer. For now, as it stands poised on the brink of its official launch, Remnant 2 already feels like a triumph. A resounding testament to the power of a unique vision, bold design choices, and the organic hype that genuine quality can inspire.

Now we wait, controllers in hand, to see if they can win the war. Whether they can deliver a game that not just meets, but surpasses our fevered expectations. And by the looks of it, Remnant 2 is more than ready for the fight.
