Microtransactions are how studios earn money from their games. However, the practice has been very controversial and sometimes even questionable, like in the case of Fortnite. Epic was subsequently ordered to refund half a billion dollars to players for transactions that weren't intentional. As a result, some studios are moving away from this practice, including Arkane Studios.

The ZeniMax Media subsidiary recently confirmed that Redfall will not feature microtransactions or even an in-game store for cosmetic items. The studio said that it is very proud of not having microtransactions present in the game.

Redfall's creative director Harvey Smith clarified that the game will still have cosmetic items. However, these will be found in the game world and cannot be bought in an in-game store.

"We try to be very clear that there are no microtransactions and there is no store in the game," Smith said. "We're very proud of that. If you find a costume in the game, then you can have it, as simple as that."
