Redfall will not have microtransactions

Arkane Studios is very proud that its upcoming co-op shooter is not going to have microtransactions in any form.

Redfall will be the most supported game in Arkane Studios library.

Microtransactions are how studios earn money from their games. However, the practice has been very controversial and sometimes even questionable, like in the case of Fortnite. Epic was subsequently ordered to refund half a billion dollars to players for transactions that weren’t intentional. As a result, some studios are moving away from this practice, including Arkane Studios.

The ZeniMax Media subsidiary recently confirmed that Redfall will not feature microtransactions or even an in-game store for cosmetic items. The studio said that it is very proud of not having microtransactions present in the game.

Redfall’s creative director Harvey Smith clarified that the game will still have cosmetic items. However, these will be found in the game world and cannot be bought in an in-game store.

“We try to be very clear that there are no microtransactions and there is no store in the game,” Smith said. “We’re very proud of that. If you find a costume in the game, then you can have it, as simple as that.”

Redfall’s Bite Back bundle includes a pass for two future heroes.

Players who are interested in getting cosmetic items for Redfall can check out the $30 Redfall Bite Back Edition on the Xbox Store, which includes the following:

  • Redfall Hero Pass with Two Future Heroes
  • Laser Beam Multi-Weapon Skin
  • Tactical Knife Stake Weapon Attachment
  • Northern Expedition Devinder Outfit
  • Eyes in the Dark Jacob Outfit
  • War Clothes Layla Outfit
  • Engineer Volunteer Remi Outfit

Smith also revealed that Arkane plans to add more guns, costumes, and other things going forward, including new content for at least the next year.

Arkane will be adding new content in future updates.

“Other than that, Redfall will be our most supported game post-launch,” Smith shared. “We went with a server model, so we can update the game constantly. If we see a lot of people falling from ladders and dying, we can update the ladder code. If we see that nobody is playing this character, we can tweak this character and make them more appealing.”

He adds, “We have plans for additional guns, costumes, monsters, characters, and more that we can’t talk about right now. But we have a strong year of updates, and it’s all either in the current game or it will be DLC. We try to do it as fairly as possible for people.”

Redfall is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S on May 2. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one. Arkane plans to drop the online-only requirement in the future.
