Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino has disclosed the reason behind his decision to end his illustrious career after his next film, which will be his tenth. The iconic director made this revelation during an interview on CNN's Who's Talking to Chris Wallace? while doing a promotional tour for his book Cinema Speculation.

To the chagrin of fans, the 59-year-old filmmaker announced in 2021 that his tenth film will be his last one. He cited personal reasons for the decision and has now come out to provide more details on the decision. The veteran director stated that he is feeling "out of touch" with the types of movies being released today. As a result, he decided it was time to call it quits so he can leave the business while he's still at his best. Basically, Tarantino is quitting because he wants to leave while there are still people who appreciate his work and the ovation is loud.

The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood director also made a remark about how he finds it difficult to define what a movie is these days. In his words, "Right now I don't even know what a movie is. Is that something that plays on Netflix? Is that something that plays on Amazon and everyone want and people watch it on their couch with their wife or their husband? Is that a movie? Because my last movie opened up in 3000 theaters and played all over the world for you know for a couple of months." He added that the current movie era is one of the worst eras in Hollywood history alongside the 1950s and 1980s.
