Sony confirms PlayStation Plus games for January 2023

Hopefully, Sony can continue releasing similar-quality titles for PS Plus Essential all throughout next year.

Adding Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a great way to hype the sequel that's coming out in March.

The earlier leak, as always, is true. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge 2, are all part of the PS Plus games lineup for next month. Sony confirmed the new games on the last Wednesday of the month, just like clockwork. You’ll need to have at least a PS Plus Essential membership to get access to the three aforementioned games starting on January 2. In the meantime, PS Plus members can redeem last month’s games (Biomutant, Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and Divine Knockout) until Monday, January 1.

It’s easy to explain Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order from Respawn Entertainment. It’s one of the best Star Wars games on the market and the sequel is coming out in March. The action-adventure game also somewhat ties into the larger Star Wars universe and the series lead, Cal Kestis, is said to be getting a live-action spin-off. Even if you’re not a big Star Wars fan, Fallen Order offers enough in the action, exploration, and platforming department to keep you occupied for hours.

As for Axiom Verge 2, the self-published Metroidvania game came out in 2021 for the PS4 with a PS5 version coming a year later. It’s a worthwhile venture if you’re looking to scratch that Metroidvania itch, especially since there doesn’t seem to be a new Metroid or Castlevania game coming out anytime soon.

Finally, the weirdest but still-very-welcome inclusion is Fallout 76. Bethesda’s online take on the Fallout franchise survived a botched launch to be one of the better multiplayer gaming experiences on the market. If you’ve been holding out on giving Fallout 76 a try due to the initial feedback, this is the best chance to give it a shot. Of course, if you’ve subscribed to PS Plus Extra or Premium (Deluxe, in certain countries) for a while, you’ve probably played Fallout 76 before.

Axiom Verge 2 is amazing when you consider that it’s pretty much made by a single individual.

Sony’s revamped PlayStation Plus didn’t take off as expected as it saw a significant decrease in subscribers. Although the overall revenue from PS Plus went up, Sony would prefer it if it didn’t come at the expense of losing subscribers.

With that said, adding noteworthy titles to the service’s cheapest offering (PS Plus Essential costs $9.99 a month, $24.99 per quarter, and $59.99 a year) can help retain customers. If Sony can keep this up, we’ve no doubt it can beat its not-competition from Microsoft.
