PlayStation reveals PC requirements for Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Surprisingly, despite the substantial attention given to the proprietary SSD of the PS5 for the game, its PC port doesn't require one.

PC gamers are in for a wild ride when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart hits Steam two weeks from now.

In a surprising development, Insomniac Games, in conjunction with Nixxes, have revealed the system requirements for the much-anticipated PC adaptation of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and, much to everyone’s surprise, it’s relatively tame

Pivotal to the game’s technical marvel is its support for DirectStorage 1.2, which makes it the first game to support this new feature. This breakthrough API brings GPU decompression capabilities to the table, freeing up CPU resources and enabling high-bandwidth streaming of game assets. It dramatically improves the experience, particularly when rendering high-quality textures and environments with intricate details, ensuring gameplay remains immersive.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a pioneering endeavor in the PC gaming sphere. We’ve developed adaptive streaming based on live measurement of the available hardware bandwidth. This permits us to modify the texture streaming strategy for the most favorable possible outcome on any configuration,” elaborated Alex Bartholomeus, Principal Programmer at Insomniac.

Many consider Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart one of the best outings in the series.

Unfortunately, the original source of the announcement is no longer available, so we’ll have to wait for more “official” word from PlayStation, which shouldn’t take too long – Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is headed to the PC on July 26.

In terms of graphics, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart on the PC will surpass its PS5 version, boasting support for ray-traced reflections, ambient occlusion, and shadows. The developers have highlighted the utilization of upscalers, such as NVIDIA DLSS 2 and 3, AMD FSR 2, and Intel XeSS, to achieve optimal performance with ray tracing enabled.

The game’s hardware requirements, though not paltry, appear to be relatively PC-friendly, considering the game’s graphic richness. On the lower end, running the game at 720p with 30 fps requires an Intel Core i3-8100 or an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and a GeForce GTX 960 or Radeon RX 470, paired with 8GB of RAM.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart should give audiences on the PC a taste of what AAA platforming game should be like.

For gaming enthusiasts aiming for 1440p at 60 fps or 4K at 30 fps with high graphics settings, an Intel Core i5-11400 or AMD Ryzen 5 5600, a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Radeon RX 6800, and 16GB RAM are recommended. Pushing the game to its ultimate, a robust setup with an Intel Core i7-12700K or AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, a GeForce RTX 4080 or Radeon RX 7900 XTX, and 32GB of RAM, facilitates 4K gaming at 60 fps with Ultra Ray Tracing.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s presumably well-optimized highly anticipated arrival on the PC and DirectStorage support with GPU Decompression and Ray Tracing Ambient Occlusion demonstrate the earnest efforts made by the developers in catering to the diverse range of PC configurations.

Given its success on the PS5, with its hybrid RT/Performance mode, expectations are high for this PC adaptation, especially now that Nixxes Software has had a chance to practice with multiple ports.

So far, Insomnaic Games has yet to confirm if more Ratchet & Clank games are coming.

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is part of a handful of PlayStation-exclusive titles that were included in the infamous Nvidia GeForce Now Leak. Based on the information listed, Sony should soon announce a PC port of either Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon: Forbidden West, and/or Gran Turismo 7 next. But, don’t bet on the racing sim to race ahead of the others, especially after what the game’s producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, said last year.
