Hideo Kojima's next PlayStation exclusive title is official, and it might be the first confirmed game for the still-unrevealed PlayStation 6.
The news, initially broken by Kojima Productions' founder, Kojima, alongside PlayStation Studios Head, Hermen Hulst, at the recently concluded State of Play showcase. The game, which sounds a lot like spiritual successor to Metal Gear, will be the studio's third original IP, amazing considering it's technically an independent studio that once relied on goodwill to keep a roof above its heads.
Despite Kojima Productions' ongoing partnership with Xbox - Microsoft's gaming division has made a concerted effort to improve relations and visibility in Japan - this renewal of the two long-time collaborators has excited fans at the possibility of a Metal Gear-like title available at launch for PlayStation 6.
Kojima plays a prominent role in the history of the PlayStation brand. Metal Gear Solid was one of the most iconic third-party exclusives that was synonymous with PlayStation and Sony for years. It took nearly two decades for Metal Gear Solid to jump to Xbox at launch with the release of Metal Gear Solid V.
According to Kojima, this still-untitled "next-generation action espionage game," will be the studio's next project after Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which comes out next year on PlayStation 5.
