HBO’s The Last of Us is one of the most highly anticipated shows to hit cable TV, but just as the TV network giant has done in the past, it’s keeping most details under lock and key. Luckily, one of the series’ stars, Pedro Pascal, who will portray Joel Miller, had a couple of words to share about the upcoming TV show.

The Game of Thrones actor was at SXSW to promote his latest project, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. As is usually the case at SXSW, reporters, and publications took the chance to ask all the celebrities about their other ongoing works. In the case of Pascal, he was asked what it’s like shooting The Last of Us. Pascal responded by confirming that “clickers and spores” are going to be in the show (and on the set) and that he’s having an “amazing time” so far. Pascal also reassured worried fans that the show’s lengthy production process is going to be “completely worth it.”

The Last of Us is commonly cited as one of the most influential video games of all time. Released at the tail end of the PS3’s lifespan in 2013, Naughty Dog’s narrative-driven action-adventure game put players in the shoes of Joel, who, throughout the game, bonds with a young girl, Ellie, across a very different and pandemic-ravaged America. In the live-action adaptation, Pascal will be joined by fellow Games of Thrones alumni, Bella Ramsay, who will be taking on the role of Ellie.

Filming on HBO’s The Last of Us kicked off last July with Neil Druckmann sharing the first official photo of the live-action adaptation in September. Druckmann was the writer and director of the 2013 title, and he’ll also be directing as well as writing the upcoming series as well. Although HBO hasn’t confirmed the production cost of the series, rumor has it that each episode has an eight-figure budget and that filming will continue through at least until the summer season.

We can only hope that HBO will delight audiences with an official trailer this year.

We’re happy that Pascal is having such a wonderful experience filming The Last of Us, given that the film’s narrative is far from what you’d call as enjoyable.

In the meantime, the absence of official news on HBO’s The Last of Us has paved the way for rumors of the source material, the video games. Most recently, fans spotted Druckmann wearing a very interesting “mistyped” hat, which many believe is a teaser for the long-rumored The Last of Us remake. The theory here is that Naughty Dog and/or HBO will announce the release dates of both The Last of Us remake and The Last of Us TV show at the same time.
