Starbreeze Studios put their money where their mouth is and have finally hunted down the source of the issues that had plagued Payday 3 at launch.
The company CEO, Tobias Sjögren, confirmed this in a new press release, revealing that the most recent set of patches it had applied to Payday 3 have improved matchmaking speeds and stability. In the same statement, Sjögren thanked the community for their patience while acknowledging the game’s shortcomings.
Previously, Starbreeze Studios had pinned the blame for the matchmaking problems to a third-party provider, but that didn’t help at all as fans flocked to the internet to make their distaste known, review-bombing the game while demanding for a new offline mode.
With Payday 3’s initial launch issues now behind it, Starbreeze is now turning its efforts towards improving co-op heist shooter and adding more content.
According to the developers, the studio aims to “improve the game experience” with Payday 3’s first post-launch patch sometime in “early October.” Afterwards, fans can look forward to a consistent roll out of updates that “address both content, quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and new functionality.
Starbreeze Studios has a massive content roadmap planned for the first year of Payday 3, marked by the release of four DLCs with seasonal events and new playable characters sprinkled in between. We can expect Starbreeze to double down on the game’s marketing now that it has solved its matchmaking problem as it strives to make Payday 3 less dependent on its online servers. Hopefully, this means that Payday 3 is getting an offline mode soon, but we doubt it.
Here’s a quick rundown of what Payday 3 players can look forward to seeing over the next few months:
- October – Hundreds of Quality of Life improvements across all platforms
- October/November – New content, features, and functionality
- November – Even more Quality of Life improvements alongside new content and features
- Winter 2023 – The release of the DLC, Syntax Error
Now that matchmaking in Payday 3 is “stable” and performance is “good”, maybe those who haven’t given the game a try can finally check it out.
Payday 3 is currently available to play on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, PC, and the Xbox Game Pass.
Payday 3 was part of a relatively stacked September month that saw the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 (on the PS5) and the ever-controversial Bethesda Game Studios title, Starfield. October is looking to be just as historically significant with the likes of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Alan Wake 2, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, among others, all launching within weeks of each other. With so much competition, you can’t blame Starbreeze Studios for shaping up fast and making sure Payday 3 doesn’t continue bleeding players.
