Paramount cancels Scream 5 red carpet premiere due to COVID-19 surge

Having said that, fans were looking forward to the film's official red carpet premiere on January 11.

Unfortunately, according to Deadline, Paramount has canceled the film's official red carpet premiere. Had it pushed through, audiences would have had a chance to see the original Scream stars such as Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette, reunite. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Billet were both set to appear on the red carpet as well.

The good news here is that Scream is still scheduled to launch in theaters as expected on January 14.

The coronavirus surge is affecting Hollywood once again. Scream isn't the only event to make similar adjustments based on the current situation. HBO Max made a similar choice as a precaution ahead of the Peacemaker premiere. Disney also moved the red carpet premiere of The Book of Boba Fett, which recently welcomed its second episode after a successful debut. Is Scream 5 available for streaming online? Scream 5 might be headed to streaming services sooner than expected.

Given what's happening right now, you'd think that Paramount would have announced a streaming release for the upcoming Scream movie. Sadly, this hasn't happened yet. The studio has pushed the movie's release date back several times with the hopes of making bank at the global box office. It wouldn't make sense to give up on its initial plans now that it's so close to premiering.

One thing to watch out for is how the current events affect the local and international box office. If Scream doesn't see a good turnout in its opening weekend on January 14, Paramount might decide to release the movie on another streaming platform.

If it's any consolation, Paramount usually gives its movies 45 days to run in theaters before releasing them on Paramount+.
