Next Metro Game Set To Be Revealed at January 31 PlayStation State of Play

The unannounced PlayStation event is set to feature a mix of upcoming exclusive titles and several other surprises.

Sony’s first State of Play in 2024 isn’t confirmed – yet. But, considering trends from the past couple of years indicate that it’s happening sooner rather than later.

With Xbox getting a jump on Nintendo and PlayStation, it’s only a matter of time before they respond. The blue team, in particular, has several highly anticipated exclusive titles coming out later this year, including Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Rise of the Ronin. Normally, it would be a guessing game about which one will appear at the next showcase.

But, thanks to Shepshal_Nick, we now know when the next PlayStation State of Play will take place and what it will contain.

@Shpeshal_Nick posted a cryptic message on Twitter earlier today about the next State of Play, which Rand al Thor 19 promptly deciphered.

As expected, a couple of upcoming PlayStation 5 exclusives are part of the lineup. However, what’s interesting is that the next Metro game is part of the reveal.

According to the leaked information, the January 2024 State of Play Showcase will take place on January 31. Based on previous events, the stream should take close to an hour. Finally, as per the insider, the State of Play will include the following games:

  • Rise of the Ronin
  • Death Stranding 2
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Sonic Generations Remaster
  • Silent Hill 2
  • New Metro game
  • Judas

All four of the exclusive titles on the list, Rise of the Ronin, Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, are either expected or confirmed to be released this year. The more interesting inclusions are the next Metro game and a remaster of Sonic Generations.

There’s no official announcement that SEGA is working on a remaster of Sonic Generations. But since Sonic is one of the company’s hottest properties at the moment, it makes sense to revisit one of the blue blur’s most iconic outings ahead of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 20.

Of course, the main highlight is the next Metro game. At this time last year, rumors emerged that 4A Games had already completed work on the game. Since then, grapevine talk hasn’t yielded any new details about the Malta-based studio’s new shooter, but nevertheless, history suggests that the untitled Metro game will live up to the franchise’s reputation for pushing the graphical boundaries of its generation.

As for Judas, a second showcase following its initial reveal at 2022’s The Game Awards suggests development is going well and a release is imminent.

Interestingly, the rumored Until Dawn remaster for the PS5 and PC and Metal Gear Solid 3 weren’t mentioned.

Judas is Ken Levine's first game since forming Ghost Story Games after working on BioShock.

While this information remains unconfirmed by Sony, the latest rumors corroborate a State of Play this Wednesday or by the following Wednesday. With both dates only a few winks away, it’s worth keeping a close eye on any announcements from Sony.
