Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most unlikely successful live-action adaptations. After being delayed for quite some time following fan backlash due to the movie’s initial portrayal of the Blue Blur, the 2020 movie pulled in more than $300 million at the global box office against an estimated $90 million budget. The positive reviews and moderate commercial success made a sequel all but guaranteed, which was later confirmed in February this year.
Fast forward to today and we just got a new poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 along with the promise of more to come on December 9, 2021.
Get ready to see Sonic at The Game Awards 2021
Tomorrow night #TheGameAwards it's a Sonic double header — don't miss the world premiere of the #SonicMovie2 trailer! https://t.co/ldMRkAt7GS

The first poster for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie confirms a couple of things for the sequel. For one, Jim Carrey is back to reprise his surprisingly effective take of Doctor Robotnik. What is particularly interesting here is that his Robotnik is looking a bit pudgier than usual. Perhaps he’s slowly rounding out to his video game form. All jokes aside, we can also see Tails helping Sonic out as they try to avoid a barrage from the villainous doctor.
Unfortunately, the Idris Elba-voiced Knuckles is nowhere to be seen in the first poster for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. If it’s any consolation, fans don’t have to wait too long for a chance to see more of the Sonic sequel.
According to The Game Awards 2021 host, Geoff Keighley, the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will premiere at the events showcase on December 9. Both Carrey as well as Ben Schwartz, the voice of Sonic, will be at TGA 2021 to introduce the trailer. However, according to the Game Awards creator, the reveal will be a “double header” for Sonic. This implies that we’re going to see more of Sonic during the show outside of the trailer. Perhaps it’s the long-rumored Sonic game that people have been talking about for quite a while.
With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 expected to hit theaters on April 8, 2022, we should see more trailers and promotional materials pop up within the next few months.
