It seems KotOR hasn’t become one with the Force just yet. Amidst speculation about the fate of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake due to Saber Interactive’s silence, recent rumors hinted at a possible cancellation. However, an insider has contradicted these reports, affirming that the development is ongoing despite challenges within the Embracer Group.
There were previous reports from noted gaming insider Jeff Grub that Saber Interactive wasn’t working on the Knights of the Old Republic remake anymore. He claimed that he could “100% confirm” the information. “This game is not being worked on right now. Just full stop,” Grubb said, “This game is not being worked on in any way, by any studio.”
However, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier claims that two sources from Saber Interactive have denied that the project has been put on ice. According to Schreier, the developers “tell me they’re still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game.”
Can't say whether the KOTOR Remake will ever actually *come out*, but yes, two people from Saber Interactive tell me they're still on it, despite recent rumors that nobody is working on the game. (Saber took the project from Aspyr last year, as Bloomberg reported then) https://t.co/prNTT6iVAy

Additionally, Schreier discussed the state of the game on the ResetEra forums. The insider said that while he is certain that the developers are working on the game, its release still isn’t certain. He also said that what the remake will “actually look like” is another question that has yet to be answered.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was originally announced in 2021 and was being developed by Aspyr, in collaboration with Sony Interactive Entertainment. The title was meant to be a timed exclusive on the PS5 before coming to PC and other platforms.
Aspyr was reportedly removed from the project in August 2022 and replaced by Saber Interactive. Sony subsequently removed the teaser trailer for the game from its official YouTube channel. Social media posts for the title were also removed which sparked speculation on the status of the remake. Sony said that the delisting was because the music license expired.
This new information is interesting as it gives hope for fans of the original to see the game on the current generation consoles. Knights of the Old Republic is one of the most beloved Star Wars games, and RPGs in general, and the remake has stirred significant interest from gamers.
However, the recent restructuring of the Embracer Group may put a damper on the project. Without external funding from Sony, the studio will be hard-pressed to find resources for the game given the financial woes of its parent company. The Embracer Group is currently evaluating all the projects being worked on by its subsidiaries and has already canceled several games to reduce costs.
