Even as Sony's flagship console breaks sales records, the entire world continues to struggle with the ongoing microchip shortage. This means that not everybody has had a chance to get themselves a PS5. Yet, for some reason, Sony went ahead and launched a new PS5 model, which, according to recent findings, is lighter and actually runs hotter compared to the original PS5 model.

Why is the new PS5 model worse?

The New Ps5 Model Is Lighter, But Also Runs At Hotter Temperatures

You'd be forgiven for not knowing that Sony has already released a new PS5 model. It came with very little fanfare and there are few visual differences. The most notable is probably that you can now tighten or loosen the stand screw by hand.

However, what most people don't know is that the new PS5 is lighter by a significant amount.

The new PS5 model weighs at least 300 grams lighter compared to the original PS5. This isn't something that you can just easily explain by a single screw. Luckily, YouTuber Austin Evans went ahead and answered everyone's curiosity by dumping a load of cash into securing a new PS5 Digital Edition (model number: CFI-1100B) and shipping it from Japan to California to find out what exactly Sony changed.
