The new PlayStation 5 update finally adds game folders and 1440p

We can imagine the more organization-oriented gamers jumping for joy because of the latest PS5 update.

We're not going to lie, it would be awesome to play Marvel's Spider-Man on a 1440p monitor with high framerates and max graphics settings.

After testing 1440p support for the PlayStation 5 a few months ago, Sony is finally rolling out this long overdue feature for everyone.

However, those with 1440p displays aren’t the only ones who will be happy with the latest PS5 update. Sony revealed a long list of new features coming to the PS5 as part of the latest firmware versions, which include:

  • 1440p HDMI support
  • “Gamelists”
  • Use voice commands to search on YouTube
  • Let players launch Remote Play from the PS App
  • Share Requests option to friends
  • Join friends games via party chat

Gamelists is a feature that lets PS5 owners add folders to their console. This makes it easier to organize games and, hopefully, to clear that cluttered backlog. Anyone can create gamelists from the main game library. Each list can hold as many as 100 games with a total limit of 15 gamelists or around 1,500 organized games.

In addition to gamelists, Sony added several noteworthy features to the PS5 such as user profile UX improvement, as well as letting players send stickers and voice messages in party chats. Sony is also letting PS5 owners compare 3D audio and regular stereo settings more conveniently.

You can say what you want about Sony being late to the console party, but it’s better than never getting these features.

Now, if only we could get our hands on a PS5 without going through so many hoops.

Hopefully, Sony can find a way to add a more innovative feature to the PS5 that’s not already on the Xbox Series S/X, just so that its console doesn’t always have to play catch up.

Speaking of Sony, PlayStation Studios head, Jim Ryann called out Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, for their lowball Call of Duty offer.
