Netflix unveils a featurette for Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon at TUDUM

"This movie, for me, existed elementally for 20 years. It's a story of a few against many, impossible odds, good versus evil," Snyder shared in the featurette. "I'm getting a chance to tell a story that I've been thinking about for quite a while."

The director adds, "I just really wanted to make a giant, atmospheric space adventure."

Actor Ed Skrein teased how big the upcoming film is. "I thought I knew what a big movie was until I came onto this," Ed Skrein said. "I mean, it is gargantuan."

Rebel Moon was originally conceived as a potential Star Wars project a decade ago. The film was shelved when Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012.

Netflix announced that it greenlit the production of Rebel Moon in 2021. The streamer provided a brief synopsis of the film.

"When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand."

Rebel Moon will be a two-part epic and will have an R-rated version. The ensemble cast includes Boutella, Skrein, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, Fra Fee, and Anthony Hopkins.

The screenplay was written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, and Shay Hatten. Deborah Snyder will serve as producer alongside Zack Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman.

Rebel Moon is coming to Netflix on December 22.
