Netflix pushing live service games

Netflix is currently looking for a live service senior producer for what many presume is part of its push towards game development.

Netflix is hiring a Senior Producer for its live operations team.

It appears that Netflix is moving forward with its gaming division and with reckless aplomb, as some would say.

A recent job posting suggests that the streaming giant is already looking for professionals to man its live service operations team.

In a new LinkedIn posting, Netflix is hiring a Senior Producer for its Live Operations team with experience in developing and shipping live service games.

Netflix currently offers its game titles for free for its members. The company may want to expand its game library to ensure that its user base is stable. This way, Netflix will avoid the mistake that Google Stadia made, shutting down because of low player counts.

The next logical step for the streaming giant is to develop and produce AAA titles to attract more users to its service, which it can do if it makes the right hires.

The role will manage the Live Service Production of Netflix Games.

“This role will focus on our Live Service Games from a production perspective, managing live games, including roadmaps, scoping, dependencies, and release of content updates,” the posting reads. “You will manage Live Service Production with external development partners across a slate of multiple titles. You will take the lead as an external developer’s primary point of contact, working with developers on the creation of project and milestone schedules, as well as post-launch content update planning, and overall development plans; provide ongoing management checks and balances throughout the full live operations of the title, from launch onwards.”

The candidate needs to have three or more years of live service production experience. The job posting specifically states that Netflix prefers a candidate that has experience in mobile game development, suggesting that its next titles will be accessible to users using mobile devices.

Netflix may be ramping up its internal game development given that it is looking for a Senior Producer. However, it is still unclear whether this post will handle its current library of mobile games or new titles.

Netflix may be looking to expand on its games offering on the platform.

It isn’t the first time the streaming company has posted job openings for its gaming division. Previous reports suggest that Netflix is working on an AAA Multiplatform live service game with a former producer for Overwatch.

Netflix reported that only 1% of its users access its offering of mobile game titles. Having a AAA title would vastly increase the penetration rate for its games. Hopefully, we will see more games come to the streaming platform soon given this new commitment from Netflix to build its games development team.
