Mojang's Minecraft Dungeons will be receiving its fourth paid DLC 'Flames of the Nether' on February 24, 2021, on all platforms where the game is available for purchase. Here's everything we know about this new DLC.

What Is Minecraft Dungeons?

Minecraft Dungeons is a cooperative dungeon crawler spin-off of Minecraft. It was released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on May 26, 2020, after being delayed from its initial release date of April 2020 due to the pandemic.

Minecraft Dungeons is set in the same world as Minecraft. However, they are wildly different from each other. They differ on the base gameplay in that the original sandbox game is an open-world sandbox while Minecraft Dungeons is a hack-and-slash dungeon crawler in an isometric perspective. This spin-off also has a narrative while the original game has none.

What Is In The Flames Of The Nether DLC?

Mojang announced that there will be six missions included and that it will be a "journey to the blazing heart of the Nether itself." This may mean a handcrafted level will be added, as the game employs both procedurally generated content and human-designed levels.  There will be new artifacts, weapons, and gears - what they are and the number of them is not specified. The DLC will also include two new skins and a pet: Baby Ghast.

The Flames of the Nether DLC is not just the additional content that Minecraft Dungeons is bound to receive. There will also be a free DLC that is already in the pipeline for this game. Mojang calls it the "most ambitious free update" for the game.

This free update will include a major new feature called Ancient Hunts, procedurally generated end-game missions that take place inside and outside of the Nether. Successfully completing these Ancient Hunts and destroying the Ancient mobs will reward the player with top-tier Gilded Gear. There is a chance of getting Gold, a new currency that will be useful in dealing with the new-arrived merchant Piglin who is stationed in your camp.
