The MechWarrior series (and BattleTech) games are a Microsoft Franchise. Naturally, this means that the titles are exclusive to Windows PCs and Xbox Consoles. However, this wasn't always the case. There was a time when PlayStation owners could enjoy these games.

To give you an idea, the last time when you could play anything related to BattleTech on a PlayStation console was back in 1997 with Activision's MechWarrior 2: Arcade Combat Edition on the original PlayStation. Since then, the series has spawned numerous sequels and none have been available on a PlayStation console - until now.

More than two decades later, BattleTech fans can finally play a new game on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles.

When is MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries coming to Sony consoles?

Piranha Games is releasing MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries to the PS4 and PS5 on September 23. The studio's Senior Community Manager, Daeron Katz, made the release official in a PlayStation Blog post.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries was originally released for Microsoft Windows PCs back in 2019. Piranha Games later ported the game over to the Xbox Series S/X as well as Xbox One last May. In addition to the base game, the PS4 and PS5 versions of MechWarrior 5 will include the Heroes of the Inner Sphere expansion. Piranha Games also confirmed that PS5 owners will get to enjoy support for Sony's DualSense adaptive triggers.

Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries Is Returning To The Ps4 And Ps5

The most important bit from the announcement is that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will feature cross-platform play.

While the game is mostly a single-player affair with a robust campaign, MechWarrior 5 does have a multiplayer function. Players can play co-op matches and check out the DLC campaign together.
