We have known for a while now that James Gunn's tenure in the MCU is coming to an end. The Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 will be his last project for Marvel Studios.
James Gunn, who has directed all three of the GotG movies, is moving to DC Studios. It was recently announced that Gunn alongside British producer Peter Safran will be co-heads at DC Studios. Walter Hamada recently stepped down as president of the studio.
Reacting to the announcement, Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige expressed his support for Gunn's new role. In an interview with Deadline at the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Feige said "Well, he has got a lot of work to do for Marvel between now and May, which he's well aware of. But after that, I'll be first in line to see anything he does."
The hiring of Gunn and Safran to lead DC Studios coincides with Warner Bros' move to consolidate all DC-related production. DC Studios will be the sole studio working on film, TV, and animation content for the DC.
