Marvel’s Wolverine is one of the most highly anticipated games on the market, regardless of its platform exclusivity. The upcoming Insomniac Games project, which the studio is currently working on following the commercially successful and critically acclaimed release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 last year.

Unfortunately, this hype has been marred by a recent security breach over at Insomniac, resulting in the accidental leak of several important details, including its potential release date and Insomniac’s next game.

However, while both are equally significant unofficial reveals, a new leak, albeit unverified, suggests Marvel’s Wolverine is going to leverage the advanced capabilities of the still-rumored PlayStation 5 Pro.

Marvel's Wolverine might not be the only game that will likely support the PS5 Pro when it comes out.

A leaked slide, presumably part of last month’s unfortunate hack, claims that Marvel’s Wolverine will deliver film-quality facial animation, enhanced destruction mechanics, real-time damage and regeneration, dynamic weather and foliage, and improved locomotion. But perhaps the most striking aspect mentioned in the leak is the AI upscaling powered by machine learning, which is expected to enable a 60 frames per second base framerate in performance ray tracing mode.

This AI upscaling feature is particularly noteworthy because the standard PlayStation 5 lacks the dedicated hardware to support such technology. In contrast, AI upscaling is usually powered by machine learning, unlike AMD FSR. Therefore, the presence of AI upscaling in Marvel’s Wolverine strongly indicates that it will be a feature exclusive to the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The speculation around the PlayStation 5 Pro has continued to gain credibility over the past few months following Tom Henderson’s earlier claims, especially after the said leaker’s reports about the PS5 Slim came true. The newest details on Project Trinity suggest that the mid-cycle upgrade will feature a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to handle AI workloads, a faster Zen 2 processor, and a new hybrid RDNA 3/RDNA 4 GPU. The goal of these enhancements is to be able to provide upscaling and boosted ray tracing performance, allowing for clearer, higher resolution image outputs. If these rumors hold true, the PS5 Pro will significantly enhance gaming experiences by delivering improved visuals and smoother gameplay.

As for Marvel’s Wolverine, official details regarding the game continue to elude fans, although leakers haven’t been shy about leaking sensitive information, even going as far as to play through the entire build on PCs.

While Marvel’s Wolverine’s tumultuous development isn’t ideal for AAA title, Insomniac remains steadfast as the rest of the industry rallies behind it in these trying times.

Lauded for basically carrying PlayStation 5 on its back in recent years with notable releases like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, on top of the aforementioned Spider-Man sequel, the fan’s fervor for Marvel’s Wolverine remains as strong as ever.

Development on Marvel’s Wolverine is currently being led by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, who are serving as its Creative Director and Game Director, respectively. This standalone Wolverine game promises to offer an original adventure, allowing players to step into the shoes of the iconic Marvel character, Logan.

Given Insomniac Games’ growth and integration into the PlayStation Studios portfolio, expectations are naturally high for the PS5 exclusive. The studio is utilizing the power of the next-generation console to its full potential, ensuring that Marvel’s Wolverine will be a showcase of the technical and creative capabilities of the PS5, and potentially, the PS5 Pro.

Fingers crossed, once the PS5 Pro is confirmed, we’ll find out if there’s any truth behind Xbox’s rumored decision to release its next-gen console earlier as well.
