Is Marvel Studios subtly teasing Taylor Swift will be appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine as Dazzler? In what promises to be an epic cinematic event, the highly-anticipated Deadpool 3, featuring the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, is generating significant buzz.
The recently released trailer, which shattered records for the most views within 24 hours, has left fans eagerly awaiting the only MCU film being released this year. In addition to two legendary reprisals, could there something else bigger than Jackman’s return?
Marvel’s Australian and New Zealand official Facebook account recently unveiled a new poster for Deadpool 3, showcasing Ryan Reynolds reprising his role as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and marking Hugh Jackman’s big screen comeback as the X-Men’s Wolverine.
The poster, adorned with three friendship bracelets—one for Deadpool, one for Wolverine, and another featuring the film’s release date—has sparked rumors of Taylor Swift’s involvement in the superhero film.
This speculation gains traction due to Swift’s well-known association with friendship bracelets, a phenomenon deeply embedded in the culture between her fans (aka ‘Swifties’) and exemplified during the Australian leg of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour which is currently running until the end of February. Swift’s presence aligns with Marvel’s Australian account sharing the intriguing poster.
Plus, Ryan Reynolds is a close friend of Taylor Swift and has further fueled the speculation about the pop sensation’s cameo. A teaser for Deadpool & Wolverine, shared by Reynolds, was filmed in the same location as Swift’s “All Too Well: The Short Film.” Candid photos featuring Reynolds, director Shawn Levy, Hugh Jackman, and Swift suggest a close bond between the Deadpool & Wolverine crew.
It’s worth noting that this is not the first time Taylor Swift has been rumored to be appearing in a Deadpool movie, and certainly not the first time she’s been referenced. Reynolds’ Wade Wilson sported a T-shirt adorned with Swift’s cats, Olivia and Meredith, in a scene from Deadpool 2, adding a playful nod to the singer’s influence on the franchise.
Plus, like Reynolds, Taylor Swift has a penchant for leaving subtle clues as part of her marketing. During the Super Bowl trailer debut, Reynolds posted a photo on his Instagram account with Deadpool in the background, humorously inquiring about the whereabouts of his wife, Blake Lively, who was accompanying Swift at the event.
Rumors initially surfaced in 2023 regarding Taylor Swift’s potential casting in Deadpool 3 as Dazzler, a lesser-known X-Men character with the ability to transform ambient sound into energy and light beams.
The theories point towards Swift portraying the mutant pop star – how fitting! – who was introduced in Uncanny X-Men issue #130 back in 1980. Dazzler also appeared in the X-Men animated pilot and the popular Konami 1992 beat-’em-up arcade game.
Despite the mounting speculation, both lead actor Ryan Reynolds and director Shawn Levy have remained tight-lipped, neither confirming nor denying Swift’s involvement. Regardless, after the recent controversies Taylor Swift had endured due to NSFW A.I. images that spread on social media, this rumor of ‘Tay-Tay’ appearing as Dazzler in Deadpool & Wolverine is a welcome change.
The film of “Marvel Jesus” and his bestie Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 25, 2024.
