Margot Robbie shares thoughts on her future as Harley Quinn in the DCEU

Having said that, we'd like to confirm that Harley Quinn isn't going to die in The Suicide Squad. At least, not to our knowledge.

However, it looks like it is Robbie who has had enough playing the psychiatrist-turned-villain for two straight films. In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, Robbie revealed that she had to film Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad back to back. She says that she needs "a break from Harley because she's exhausting" and that she's just as "intrigued as everyone else is" as far as her future in the DCEU goes.

This is a surprising sentiment when you consider both Harley Quinn's popularity and that of Margot Robbie.

Harley Quinn's popularity has surged over the past decade. In addition to Robbie's successful portrayal, Harley Quinn has also appeared in other media such as in the Injustice video games with a cameo as a playable skin in Mortal Kombat 11. She's also had an animated show with the adult-oriented Harley Quinn animated series.

On top of these confirmed appearances and projects, Harley Quinn was set to appear in other works as well. This includes a romance film that was supposed to revolve around the love story of Harley and Joker, as well as a standalone Harley Film. There were reportedly plans for Harley to team up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy in Gotham City Sirens as well. There are also talks that a Birds of Prey sequel might happen a couple of years down the line.

None of these said projects have been confirmed outside of preliminary talks. If The Suicide Squad is indeed the last time we'll get to see Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn for a while, then we're thankful for Robbie's dedication to the role. What's next for The Suicide Squad? If The Suicide Squad is indeed Robbie's last stint as Harley Quinn, then we might as well enjoy it.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United Kingdom on July 30, 2021. A week later, The Suicide Squad will be shown in theaters in the United States on August 5, before being available on HBO Max.

So far, we've had multiple chances to get a glimpse of what to expect from The Suicide Squad, with the official "Rain" trailer and a new TV spot that showcased Starro's powers.

With only a few weeks to go before its premiere, we can expect more interviews from cast members, TV spots, as well as trailers, to drop, as the hype surrounding the film reaches a fever pitch.
