We are a few days from the launch of World of Warcraft's Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Blizzard has taken the opportunity to create a new Lore video for the story of Arthas Menathil.
The tale of how Arthas, Prince of Lordaeron, was corrupted to become the Lich King was a huge part of the plot in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos way back in 2002. The lore was explored further during the launch of the second expansion for World of Warcraft which was Wrath of the Lich King in 2008.
Arthas Menethil retells the tragic story of Arthas' journey from heir to the throne to taking up the cursed runeblade, Frostmourne, in a bid to defeat the scourge. Unfortunately, the sword eventually corrupted Arthas and in his thirst for power, ascended the Frozen Throne. There he donned the Helm of Domination to become the Lich King.
The new video is told from the viewpoint of the sorceress Jaina Proudmoore, who was with Arthas when he purged the city of Stratholme after it was overrun by the undead. Jaina was a childhood friend and former lover of Arthas. She left his side during the purge of Stratholme.
