On October 31st, Konami will launch its Silent Hill revival with the interactive streaming series Silent Hill: Ascension. The announcement, made in collaboration with Genvid Entertainment, confirmed an earlier leak reported by trusted insider Wario64.
Ahead of the upcoming release, both Konami and Genvid Entertainment have unveiled a new trailer that provides a glimpse behind the curtains.
The trailer begins with a mysterious scene in a fog-covered town, where a woman and a young boy walk. Meanwhile, an intense interrogation unfolds between a man and a woman as the trailer proceeds. The man asks the woman if she killed her son and she responds that she didn’t.
However, she confesses to doing a ritual and expresses surprise at how it turned out. She tells him, “I did everything correctly exactly as I was thought. Every word, every cut. But what I saw? It was something new. Something we don’t understand.”
The show’s description provides more context on the plot. It reads, “The Hernandez family faces chaos following a death in their decimated Pennsylvania town. Simultaneously, in a dying fishing village in Norway, the Johansen family’s uneasy peace is shattered when their matriarch, Ingrid, dies under suspicious circumstances. Their survival depends on overcoming their darkest impulses and navigating the machinations of a cult, revealing a horror that binds them together.”
Silent Hill: Ascension is unlike any television series we’ve seen before with viewers given the power to shape how the story progresses. Every day, Genvid Entertainment will release a new scene, and fans will have the opportunity to vote on the direction of the narrative. This interactive experience will continue daily for six months.
At the end of each week, Genvid Entertainment will compile the week’s scenes into a full episode, available on the Sony Pictures Core app. However, this app has limited compatibility, and is only accessible on devices such as the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Sony’s Bravia televisions, and select Sony Xperia phones.
While Silent Hill: Ascension’s concept is innovative, its success is uncertain. Audiences tend to be wary of unfamiliar formats and a live interactive series lacking precedent might turn out to be one of them.
Additionally, six months is a long time for any show, talk more of one with new scenes every day. Will Silent Hill: Ascension be engrossing enough to keep its audience engaged during its run? Finally, will viewers who choose the less popular options be motivated to return?
Silent Hill: Ascension poses a lot of questions that we hope Konami and Genvid Entertainment have answers to otherwise the venture is doomed to fail even before it begins. Regardless, fans are eagerly anticipating the series, which kicks off this Halloween.
Silent Hill: Ascension marks the beginning of Konami’s Silent Hill initiatives, extending across gaming and television. Among these projects is the Silent Hill 2 remake, seemingly nearing completion as evident from recent updates on its Steam page. Additionally, the film Return to Silent Hill is slated for an early release next year.
Silent Hill: Ascension premieres on October 31 and will be accessible on Android and iOS devices. Alternatively, viewers can stream the interactive series via its website at Ascension.com.
