Return to Silent Hill, the first Silent Hill adaptation since the 2012 film Silent Hill: Revelation, might finally have a release date. A few days ago, IMDb updated its information database for the movie and listed a release date of April 26, 2024, for the horror thriller.

IMDb has since removed the release date information, which makes us think they added it in error in the first place. But then, the information is also available via Google. Enter the words "Return to Silent Hill" into Google's search box and you will see an initial release date of April 26, 2024, boldly displayed among the information the search engine returns.

While we want to believe this release date, IMDb and Google are not the best sources of such information. Because of this, we recommend that Silent Hill fans take the news with a grain of salt. If the production team behind the film has truly set a release date of April, we are sure they will make an official announcement sooner rather than later.

When that happens, you can rest assured we will bring it to your attention. Konami greenlit Return to Silent Hill last October and filming began this April. Given there is no major production house involved, we believe a fast turnaround time is feasible.

Ordinarily, we would doubt news of the film's release because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. But in May, the film's lead actor Jeremy Irvine made an Instagram post that implied the project would wrap up filming in June, about three weeks before the SAG-AFTRA strike began. Because of this, we believe the movie finished filming before the strike began and, as a result, can make an early 2024 release.

Return to Silent Hill sees Christophe Gans return as director. Gans directed the very first Silent Hill film in 2006 and was in contention to direct the second film but couldn't because he was busy with another project.

Return to Silent Hill is based on Silent Hill 2, the second entry in the video game franchise. The film's description reads, "When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love, James finds a once-recognizable town and encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new, and begins to question his own sanity."

Return to Silent Hill is one of several Silent Hill projects – across film and games – that Konami is working on. One of these is a Silent Hill 2 remake, which was close to completion in March, Silent Hill F, Silent Hill Townfall, and Silent Hill Ascension.

If the IMDb listing is correct, then Return to Silent Hill will debut in theaters on April 26, 2024.
