It looks like it won’t be long before players put on the shoes of James Sunderland and watch his guilt take on physical manifestations in the form of bandaged nurses and the iconic Pyramid Head.
Over the past month, multiple signs have pointed to an official announcement about the Silent Hill 2 Remake coming soon.
Earlier this month, a listing on a Mexican retailer popped up that had the remake of the classic survival horror title set for May 30. Most paid little mind to this, thinking this was nothing but an errant listing and/or placeholder. Now, the sightings of the posters that are appearing in several GameStop locations, complete with an ESRB rating – the game doesn’t appear on the official website but it received a similar rating on South Korea’s equivalent of the regulatory body – suggest that a release date is imminent.
Ohh yes! Please hate Konami.

While uncharacteristic for most video game companies, the lack of an official release date until possibly two months before launch is typical of Konami’s marketing strategies lately. We can recall that Konami released multiple Silent Hill games over the past few months albeit to mixed results. Public reception aside, this could’ve been Konami’s way of building up hype for the upcoming remake, which is the lynchpin of the company’s ambitious revival project.
Further adding to the possibility of an imminent announcement is @Silknigth, a trusted insider, saying that Konami is sitting on the official announcement. They are the same leaker who confirmed the Xbox ports of Sea of Thieves and Grounded before their official reveal.
If we go by that line of thinking, Konami may have scheduled anything related to Silent Hill until after their next reveal for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Curiously, this lines up with David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake, recently teasing more gameplay footage coming of the Metal Gear remake soon.

Amidst the uncertainty, Silent Hill 2 continue to draw mixed reactions. Concerns exist about its quality following Bloober Team’s response to criticisms about the early visuals and animation. Not to mention, Konami appears to have invested little to market Silent Hill 2. This could lead to a lack of visibility for the game and negatively affect its sales. You’d think Konami would consistently come up with new promotional material for a pivotal part of Silent Hill’s future. The failure of this remake (whether commercially or critically or both) could jeopardize its other incoming projects.
Despite the concerns, the potential of the Silent Hill 2 remake remains high. A faithful recreation with effective marketing could solidify the game’s status as a horror classic and introduce it to a new audience. Only time will tell if Bloober Team can deliver on this ambitious project.
