Knockout City, EA’s dodgeball themed clap back at the kind of arcadey extreme sports game genre that Rocket League catapulted into the mainstream, is getting a second, cinema-themed, season later this month.
Fight at the Movies is launching on the 27th of July, as announced at EA Play Live.
Knockout City is a team based competitive sci-fi spin on the classic game of dodgeball that we all loved to play during lax P.E. classes back in primary school. Knockout City is full of nu-punk character designs and flashy, colorful neon environments – you know the aesthetic, it pops up in cartoony multiplayer games all the time these days.
Season 2’s announcement at EA Play Live was prefaced by official statistics of how the game’s doing, with a highlight being players collectively scoring a billion KOs so far. The main addition that Fight at the Movies will bring to the game is a huge new map that’s constantly shifting.
Coming to a holo-theater near you on July 27th: Fight at the Movies!
Action-packed brawlin' that'll have you on the edge of your seat as you experience the silver screen like never before! Brawl on a constantly changing map, with a new ball, new cosmetics, new Playlists and more! pic.twitter.com/l4B7XviNb2— Knockout City (@knockoutcity) July 22, 2021
Styled after a drive-thru cinema with cars bordering the map on all sides, this arena will reformat itself mid-match based on what movie genre is being shown. In the footage we’ve seen, there was a children’s movie, a Kaiju flick and something set in what looks a lot like ancient Egypt. As the map changes beneath your feet, you’ll need to adapt your strategy to keep scoring those KOs.
No new season is ever complete without fresh cosmetics, and Fight at the Movies is bringing a new ball, new costumes and other customization options to Knockout City, including a skeleton skin and an adventurer skin that’s clearly homage to Indiana Jones. There’s also a bunch of new movie themed gliders coming in the season as well, waiting for you to unlock them.
Knockout City Season 2 – Fight at the Movies launches on July 27, 2021. That’s next week!
