Joseph Staten's time at Microsoft has come to a close after news of his departure from the technology conglomerate was confirmed.

Staten began his career in game development at Bungie where he initially was the director of cinematics and supervised the creation of in-game movies for Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3. After Bungie's departure from Microsoft in 2007, Staten joined the creative directing team for Destiny. However, Staten's tenure at Bungie came to an end when he opted to return to Microsoft Studios (now known as Xbox Game Studios) in 2014.
Staten held the position of senior creative director at Microsoft for almost a decade, during which he contributed to the publication of numerous Xbox franchises. In 2020, he departed from Xbox Game Studios and joined 343 Industries, where he assumed the role of head of creative for the completion of Halo Infinite.
In January, news emerged that Staten would be rejoining Xbox Game Studios Publishing following his departure from 343. This development coincided with Microsoft's announcement of mass layoffs affecting 10,000 employees, among them developers at 343 Industries.
