Marvel just fans took a Thanos-sized gut-punch after Jon Watts stepped down from his role as the director for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Fantastic Four reboot.
reported Watts' departure but didn't explain the reason behind it. However, the report does say that Marvel Studios and Watts' relationship remains amicable, suggesting that this was a mutual decision and Watts might still return for a fourth Spider-Man outing.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment haven't confirmed that Tom Holland will return just yet, but it's only a matter of time.
After No Way Home set records in theaters and digital formats, it will be a huge waste not to bring back Watts, Holland, as well as Zendaya, back for more web-slinging shenanigans. At the moment, Watts is still attached to helm the still-unannounced film, but we're not exactly ruling out his departure either.
